Research 2000 says Congressman Young and Senator Stevens are in some serious trouble:
Research 2000 for Daily Kos. 12/3-6. Likely voters. MoE 4% (No trend lines)
If 2008 election for Congress were held today, for whom would you vote for if the choices were between Ethan Berkowitz, the Democrat, and Don Young, the Republican?
Young (R) 42
Berkowitz (D) 49If 2008 election for U.S. Senate were held today, for whom would you vote for if the choices were between Mark Begich, the Democrat, and Ted Stevens, the Republican?
Stevens (R) 41
Begich (D) 47
Ethan Berkowitz is the Democratic Minority Leader in the Alaska House; he’s already launched his campaign for Congress. Mark Begich is the Mayor of Anchorage; he’s supposedly considering a run for Senate–maybe these numbers will convince him to go for it.
Both Young and Stevens have seen their support plummet as their corruption has come to light. Alaska has been a pretty Republican state for a while–mostly due to the state’s oil industry–but the people of Alaska won’t tolerate open, blatant corruption from their elected officials any longer.
Alaska is known as the last frontier–right now, it looks like it will become a new frontier for the Democratic Party.
